A Friend. A Daughter. A Sister. A Cousin. A Niece. A Granddaughter.

Hi all. So as promised here's the blog for my cross country road trip. The title of each post will fill in the blank of the "Adventures of________" The blank will be what my travel companions and I are identifying as for the day. Today I am identifying as who I am to each of you. I'm excited that I will be able to share my (our) journey with you; whether seeing you will be  a stop along the way or if you will be following along here.
My first stop was Milford/North Haven to pick up Julia and Hannah's gear for the second leg of the trip then I headed to West Chester, PA to visit my friend Dave from college. We had perfect weather (the first sun in over a week) for a great day at the Longwood Gardens followed by a delicious lunch at The Harvest Seasonal Grill and Wine Bar. Harvest is a dietitain's dream, with a farm-to-table menu featuring dishes (most under 500 calories) made with local ingredients.  I had a veggie burger (the onion marmalade was to die for) and Organic Peak Summer Seasonal Beer (yay! for gluten).

Saturday evening I headed down to Shenandoah National Forest to camp and watched the sun set as I drove along skyline drive.

I camped at Matthew's Arm Campground (milepost 21) then got up early Sunday morning and drove to Milam Cap (Milepost 52) to trail run. The loop from Milam Gap is 7.4 miles and starts on a shaded trail that runs along a stream then winds up Laurel Prong trail that get it's name from the Mountain Laurel growing along it edges. The loop then finishes with a nice flat 2.4 miles on the Appalachian Trail. I took a quick water bottle "shower" in the parking lot and headed for Knoxville, TN. I drove the remaining 53 miles of Skyline Drive and then continued along the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is just as scenic (maybe more) than Skyline Drive. I hopped on 81 before Roanoke, VA and arrived in Knoxville late Sunday night. The rest of the journey begins Wednesday... can't wait!
